Ancient Martial Arts in Modern Day Society

White Tiger Kung Fu, also named Bak Fu Pai, is a Southern Shaolin variety of Kung Fu first manifested in 1644. Although this self defense sort is very ancient, it is still intact to this day with the customs and techniques prospering here in 2011, while still blossoming and exploding with life (for the general self defense class they were playing rock music on the boombox, which is in all likelihood a new transformation since 1644.) Somehow it works, and its just subtle and not at all nettlesome. My concentration was unquestionably on the teacher, not the audio, but it lends a fun spirit to the lessons and it’s just enjoyable to do things to music sometimes.

Despite the fact that this shaolin style dates back officially to 1644 and the 1st in the Doo Wai lineage, you must also consider that in 1644 some of these disciplines were already 1000’s of years old. Many of the sparring and sanative techniques that were incorporated in 1644 were probably created far earlier in Chinese boxing and healing arts. I think its hard to say how old many of the methods may be, or how old many of the herbal concentrates are as well.

When people think of Kung Fu, they are generally thinking of Northern Shaolin style, with its long flowing graceful kicks, but Southern Shaolin Kung Fu looks more like boxing or Karate and isn’t at all like what you see in the tv shows typically. White Tiger style is a no nonsense kung fu developed in the Southern Shaolin tradition.

Finding Bruce Lee’s Martial Art Jeet Kune Do In India Without Being Ripped Off

Jeet Kune Do is the famous art of Bruce Lee, and many think that he showcased the art in his films such as Enter The Dragon which he in fact did not. In his many films Lee used more of his Tae Kwon Do kicking that he found suited films as they were flashy, yet impractical for the street defense system that he devised.

You will see many of these high flashy kicks in India from “instructors” claiming to teach the real Jeet Kune Do. Some of these little known instructors notably Ritesh Reddy,Deepak Rao and Seema Rao are all from jkdindia.com which is a not authorized by the Bruce Lee Foundation in any way, nor does the Foundation condone their activities and use of Bruce Lee images and logos. So now you know of what to look out for, how do you find the legitimate teachers located throughout India. This task has become harder in the past few years as more and more un authorized teachers and schools have popped up throughout India.

One good thing is that the Government of India is cracking down on all the false claims and fake schools.
For a school to teach Jeet Kune Do in India legally it has to be organized and or associated with a legitimate Jeet Kune Do group in the United States authorized to teach and recognized as legitimate such as the largest JKD group the World Jeet Kune Do Federation. The World Jeet Kune Do Federation website http://jeetkunedo.org lists instructors who are certified to teach real JKD and has a listing at the bottom of those to watch out for, a couple are from India.

Are Martial Arts Gradings Significant

Countless Martial Arts schools have a built in grading structure. This allows students to obtain a tangible symbol of progression, typically in the form of a new belt or sash. Commonly, the grading is a tough test with students having to indicate an ability level needed to rise a notch.

The grading test is frequently a very enjoyable, but tough, day, while some do fail, generally they shouldn’t as they will not be put forward for the grading unless they’re ready. Clearly, there’s no point attempting your black belt if you’re only a blue belt standard. You ‘ll be in over your head! Numerous Martial Arts schools simply award a new grade to their students when the trainer feels they have attained a suitable level. Although pupils miss out on taking the actual grading this method averts people from demanding their next belt once the time between belts is up.

Regularly pupils consider that merely because they’ve turned up for the stipulated number of schools they are due their grading. While that may be agreeable at some of the more money oriented Martial Arts schools it is not so in lessons where the trainer cares about your promotion. At the end of the day a belt is just something to keep your uniform or gi tidy the color is worthless if it hasn’t been received.
